After agreeing to buy Frontier Communications in September 2024, Verizon expects to finally close its $20 billion purchase this week. The final major hurdle has been cleared: the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) unanimously approved the deal last week. Getting there required a few regulatory contortions on Verizon’s part.
